What we do

Power Flush in Manchester

Over the years, central heating systems fill with sludge: a mix of rust and debris that collects in radiators and pipework. It blocks circulation, leaves radiators cold at the bottom, and makes the boiler work harder and fail sooner. Nelson Plumbing & Heating power flushes systems across Manchester, clearing the debris out and adding inhibitor so it stays clean.

  • Full power flush of the heating system
  • Magnetic filter supplied and fitted
  • Corrosion inhibitor added
  • Radiator by radiator clearing
  • Before and after temperature checks
  • Often required to validate a new boiler warranty

Know the signs

When you need power flush

How it works

What actually happens

1

Test the system

We check flow and return temperatures across the radiators to see where the blockages actually are.

2

Connect and flush

A pump is connected to the system and pushes water and cleaning chemicals through at high flow, in both directions.

3

Work radiator by radiator

Each radiator is isolated and agitated in turn so the sludge is lifted rather than just stirred.

4

Filter and inhibit

A magnetic filter is fitted and inhibitor added, so the system does not simply re-sludge.

How long it takes. Most domestic systems take the best part of a day. Larger or badly sludged systems can take longer.
The price

What is included, and what changes it

Included in your fixed price

  • Full system flush, not just a chemical dose
  • A magnetic filter fitted
  • Corrosion inhibitor added
  • Before and after temperature readings so you can see the difference

What changes the price

  • The number of radiators on the system
  • How badly sludged the system is
  • Whether the system is open vented or sealed
  • Whether any radiators are beyond saving and need replacing
We do not publish a headline price for power flush, it would be a guess. You get a fixed price after we have seen the job, and that is the price you pay.
Worth knowing

Power flush, chemical flush, or magnetic filter: what is the difference?

These get sold interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Here is the honest difference:

Chemical flush
A cleaning chemical is added, circulated for a while, then drained. It is cheaper and gentler, and it is fine for a mildly dirty system. It will not shift heavy sludge.
Power flush
A high flow pump is connected and forces water and chemicals through the system in both directions, radiator by radiator. This is what removes actual sludge and restores circulation.
Magnetic filter
Fitted onto the return pipe, it catches magnetic debris before it reaches the boiler. It is prevention, not a cure. It will not clean a system that is already sludged, but it stops a clean one getting dirty again.
Inhibitor
A chemical left in the system that stops corrosion forming in the first place. It depletes over time and should be topped up, which is why it is checked during a service.
Most boiler manufacturers require the system to be cleaned and inhibited to keep the new boiler warranty valid. If someone fits a new boiler onto a sludged system without cleaning it, they may have voided your warranty on day one.

Covering Manchester

From city centre apartments to Victorian terraces in the suburbs, Manchester housing varies hugely, and so do the heating systems in it. We cover the city centre, Ancoats, Chorlton, Didsbury, Withington, Levenshulme and the wider M1 to M23 postcodes.

Manchester is a city of two extremes: new build apartments in the centre, often on communal systems with combi boilers and tight service cupboards, and rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Chorlton, Didsbury and Levenshulme with older pipework, original radiators and systems that have been added to over decades. The terraces are where we most often find sludge, cold radiators and boilers that were never sized for the house.

Questions

Power Flush in Manchester, answered

Do you cover Manchester?

Yes. Nelson Plumbing & Heating Ltd covers Manchester and the surrounding areas, including the city centre, Ancoats, Chorlton, for power flush and all other plumbing, heating and gas work. We are a Salford based company (M3 6GB) with Gas Safe registered engineers working right across Greater Manchester. From city centre apartments to Victorian terraces in the suburbs, Manchester housing varies hugely, and so do the heating systems in it. If you are not sure whether your postcode (M1 to M23) is covered, call the team on 0161 515 9977 or email admin@nelsonplumbing.co.uk and we will confirm straight away.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?

Yes. Every gas job Nelson Plumbing & Heating carries out in Manchester is completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Gas Safe registration is a legal requirement for anyone working on gas appliances in the UK, and it means the engineer has been assessed as competent on the specific type of work they are doing. You are welcome to ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card when they arrive, and you should ask that of any engineer who comes to your home. The card shows a licence number and the exact categories of work they are qualified for.

How much does power flush cost in Manchester?

The honest answer is that it depends on the job, and any company that gives you a firm price over the phone without seeing it is guessing. What changes the price for power flush is mainly: the number of radiators on the system; how badly sludged the system is; whether the system is open vented or sealed. What we do instead is give you a fixed price before any work starts, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay. As one customer put it: "the job was exactly how much they quoted for, no scary surprises." For a free, no obligation quote in Manchester, call 0161 515 9977 or email admin@nelsonplumbing.co.uk.

How long does power flush take?

Most domestic systems take the best part of a day. Larger or badly sludged systems can take longer. Every job is different, so when we quote for power flush in Manchester we will also tell you realistically how long we will be, and whether we need more than one visit. We would rather tell you honestly up front than turn up and disappear halfway through.

How quickly can you get to me in Manchester?

Nelson Plumbing & Heating works out of Salford, so most of Manchester is a short run for our engineers. For genuine emergencies, a burst pipe, no hot water, a boiler lockout, we prioritise the call and aim to get someone out as fast as we can, and we will talk you through making the property safe while we are on the way. For planned work such as an installation or an annual service in Manchester, we will book a slot that suits you. Call 0161 515 9977 and the team will tell you honestly when they can be with you rather than promise something they cannot keep.

What is included in the price?

For power flush in Manchester, the fixed price we quote includes: full system flush, not just a chemical dose; a magnetic filter fitted; corrosion inhibitor added; before and after temperature readings so you can see the difference. If we find something during the job that genuinely changes the scope, we stop and tell you before we carry on, we do not simply add it to the bill at the end. Nelson Plumbing & Heating is a limited company (number 13649684) and we are members of Checkatrade and TrustATrader.

Do you work with landlords and letting agents in Manchester?

Yes. We carry out landlord gas safety checks (CP12 certificates), servicing and repairs for landlords and letting agents across Manchester and Greater Manchester. If you let a property with gas appliances you are legally required to have every gas appliance and flue checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer every 12 months, to give the tenant a copy of the record within 28 days, and to keep copies for at least 2 years. We can handle single properties or a portfolio. Call 0161 515 9977 or email admin@nelsonplumbing.co.uk.

What areas around Manchester do you cover?

From our base in Salford we cover Manchester and the wider Greater Manchester area, including Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Sale, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Warrington. Within Manchester itself we regularly work in the city centre, Ancoats, Chorlton, Didsbury, Withington, Levenshulme and across the M1 to M23 postcodes. If your postcode sits just outside that, it is still worth calling on 0161 515 9977, we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you rather than take the booking and let you down.
